1. THE CARING CONNECTION

A team of volunteers from Spiritus Christi in Rochester, NY. Our group helps to meet the diverse needs of our fellow parishioners. The group is separated into four subgroups to help meet these needs:

  • The Communications Team: This group provides encouragement and comfort through visitations to parishioners' homes, sending emails, sending cards, and making phone calls during times of transition (i.e., medical issues, stressful/tragic circumstance/loss, etc.)
  • Communion at Home Team: This group provides Communion in the home of parishioners who cannot make it to church.
  • Social Worker Resource Team: This group links parishioners to the resources in our Rochester community or to other helpful resources being offered by our parishioners.
  • Physical Labor/Domestic Assistance: This group provides emergency fill-in/temporary assistance to parishioners in their home during times of transition in the following areas: yard work (i.e. leaves, mowing grass, gardening), feeding pets, small handyman activity, cleaning/organizing, laundry, help moving, grocery shopping, snow removal, meal preparation, help with paperwork (i.e., sort newspapers and mail)
  • For more information contact Myra Brown via email at mbrown@spirituschristi.org or by telephone at 585-325-1180 ext 117

    2. SPEAKING FROM THE HEART

A coffee hour event where refugees are invited to converse with Americans who are open to them and supportive of their efforts to express themselves in English over snacks and beverages. All are welcome to participate, regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof.

The goals of Speaking from the Heart include:

  • Dismantling the social and linguistic isolation surrounding many refugees
  • Helping refugees to practice English conversation
  • Extending friendship to one another across linguistic, cultural and socio-economic barriers
  • Educating each other and creating mutual understanding through conversation and interaction
  • For more information contact the church office at

    325-1180.

    3. BUDDY READERS

Buddy readers help students in grades K-4 to develop sound beginning reading skills and most especially, a love of reading. We read every Monday morning from 9 to 10 am at World of Inquiry School. We read with our buddies, usually on an individual basis. You don't need any background in teaching or education to help- just a love of reading and a love of children!
