For me, music at Spiritus Christi has always been about more than singing. It is about connection, community, healing, and creating a place where people can come as they are and know that they belong.

The Spiritus Christi Mass Choir is an important part of our music ministry. We sing together each week at the 9:30 a.m. Mass and are honored to share our music at some of the most meaningful moments in people’s lives, including weddings, funerals, and ordinations. But what makes our choir special goes far beyond the music. We are a welcoming, caring, and loving family. We support one another, celebrate one another, and try to extend that same spirit of love and acceptance to the Spiritus Christi community, the Rochester community, and beyond.

As the Music Minister Liaison, I have the privilege of helping connect the many pieces that make our choir and music ministry work. I collaborate with our music ministers in selecting music for the weekly Mass, coordinate the singers and other music needs, and prepare lyrics for the service slides and ASL interpreters. I am also the main communicator for the choir and help create opportunities for us to gather throughout the year—to share a meal, sing, pray, celebrate, laugh, and strengthen the relationships that make our choir a family.

I have been attending Spiritus Christi and singing in the choir for more than 15 years. My journey here has been one of healing, acceptance, faith, love, and kindness. I have found a place where I can be myself, where all are welcomed, and where I have formed some of the closest relationships of my life.

I am a 60-something newlywed, a mother and grandmother, a writer, reader, and traveler. I am also someone who is still finding my way in the world, asking questions, growing, and discovering what comes next. I am grateful that Spiritus Christi has been part of that journey and continues to be a place where I—and so many others—can find connection, purpose, acceptance, and belonging.

It is a privilege to help create that sense of belonging for others through music and community.
