Readings: EX 3:1-8A, 13-15; 1 COR 10:1-6, 10-12; LK 13:1-9
There is really so much that we could unpack from today’s readings. The first reading is the famous reading from Exodus of Moses and the burning bush. Paul then offers some useful critique to the Corinthians. Jesus rounds it out with an interpretation that we all probably need to hear.
I may spend more time in a future post writing about each of these, but for today, I will keep it somewhat short and sweet offering an adapted poem I wrote related to their themes.
Wherever you go in this world
Take off your shoes for you are on holy ground
God hears the cries of the afflicted and is moved
Sending ambassadors into the world
Those who speak with the power of the ancestors
So do not grumble and complain about your life
Others have been tested just as you have
And they were brought through
Bad things happen in this world
Even to good people
God still loves and cares for you
So be on guard that your spirit does not give up
And lose its faith
Tend to your heart and mind
That they might bear fruit
That helps you see
Burning bushes
Everywhere

Your message is beautiful and powerful, Mike. Thank you for the heart invitations, especially to speak with the power of the ancestors.

Thanks, Sue. The ancestors are a force and presence that I have only recently (past few years) really started to appreciate and turn to with more vigor and confidence. You have been part of that development in me through your work and witness.

Yes, this says so much.
Reminds me of J.D. Salinger in his book Seymour:An Introduction “ All we do our whole lives is go from one little piece of Holy Ground to the next.”
If we see this then, we will see the burning bushes
