Our Youth Ministry Program aims to provide a safe place where teens can explore their spirituality, celebrate their individuality and be completely “themselves.” During our Youth Group meetings, we ask thought-provoking questions about teen issues like peer pressure, our moral compass, and where we find God.
Our program runs on the “THREE S System,” which is our way of integrating three very important aspects of our programming: Spirituality, Service, and Social. Our events always touch on one (or more) of those three subjects. We work together to serve others, dig deep into our spiritual journey, and have a lot of fun along the way! We would love for you to get involved!
Teens 7th–12th grades are welcome to our safe place. Pronouns are respected, EVERYONE is included, and ALL are invited to join us. Please take some time to check out the info below, and don’t hesitate to get a hold of one or both of our Youth Ministers — LAUREN URZETTA & MARK POTTER — at any time.
Programs
Youth group meets most Sundays, starting in late September and running through early June. We meet in our Youth Room, located in the basement of Spiritus Christi Church (121 N. Fitzhugh Street).
Meeting times are generally 11 am–1 pm (check the calendar (will be posted soon) for specific dates and times). There are other times we meet as well for social gatherings, and for community service opportunities.
Our Youth Meetings are themed around teen issues and spirituality. We usually begin by introducing the theme of the day, followed by a discussion or activity, then end with some social time. Weekly meetings, while themed, do not run in succession. That is, if a teen missed “last week,” they would not be “behind” the next time they visit. Each meeting is new.
Here are some of the themes we cover:
- Finding God in Everyday Life
- Peer Pressure
- Self-Image
- Forgiveness & Compassion
- Using God and Others to Help Make Sound Decisions
- Where Do We Fit In?
- Dealing with Loss
- Racism & Social Justice
Every summer in mid-July, our teens are invited to participate in a week-long Youth Mission Trip. The retreat is FIVE full days of community service work; food and overnight accommodations are planned and discussed with parents in advance.
We choose a different city in the northeast United States each year as our location. Our Mission Trip starts on Sunday morning, and ends the following Friday afternoon.
Teens work extremely hard to serve others, while fine-tuning their teamwork ability and leadership skills. When looking back on their youth ministry years, alumni often say that the Youth Mission Trips were the most memorable for them.
Info for our summer programming comes out in the early spring of each year.
