Youth Group

Youth Group

Our youth ministry program aims to provide a safe place where teens can explore their spirituality, celebrate their individuality and be completely “themselves.”  During our youth group meetings we will ask thought-provoking questions about teen issues like peer pressure, our moral compass and where we find God.  Our program runs on the “THREE S System,” which is our way of integrating three very important aspects of our programming – Spirituality, Service and Social. Our events will touch on one of those three subjects, or even more than one at times.  We work together to serve others, we dig deep into our spiritual journey and we have a lot of fun along the way!  We would love for you to get involved!  Teens 7th – 12th grades are welcome to our safe place.  All are welcome, pronouns are respected and ALL are welcome.  Please take some time to check out some info below and don’t hesitate to get a hold of our youth ministers, Mark Potter and Lauren Frye at any time.

Youth Group Meetings

We hold our youth group meetings 11:30am – 1:00pm on most Sundays late-September through late-May.

The Junior High (7th & 8th grades) meets in their youth room and led by youth minister Lauren Frye.  The Senior High (9th – 12th grades) meets in the Mayfield Room, which in near the gym in the basement.

Our youth meetings are themed around teen issues and spiritually.  They usually begin by introducing the theme of the day, followed by a discussion or activity and ends with some social time.  Weekly meetings, while themed, do not run in succession.  That is, if a teen missed “last week,” they would not be “behind” the next time they visit.  Each meeting is new.  Here are some of the themes we cover:

  • Finding God in everyday life
  • Peer Pressure
  • Self-image
  • Forgiveness & compassion
  • Using God and other to help made sound decisions
  • Where do we fit in?
  • Dealing with loss
  • Racism & social justice

Junior High Summer Program

Our junior high teens are invited to spend a week with us in the summer (mid-July) to participate in our “Mission Possible” retreat.  The retreat is FIVE full days of community service work.  The program runs from 8am-5pm Monday – Friday.

Teens will not only explore and find the gifts within themselves, but they will also be encouraged to find God’s beauty in the people they serve.  Info for our summer programming comes out in early spring each year.

Senior High Summer Program

Our senior high teens are invited to spend a week with us in the summer (mid-July) to participate in our Senior High Mission Trip.  The retreat is FIVE full days of community service work, and each year we choose a difference city in the northeast United states to work in (in COVID years we had stayed locally in Rochester).  The program runs from Sunday morning of the trip and overnights until Friday afternoon.

Teens will work extremely hard to serve others while fine-tuning their teamwork ability and their leadership skills.  Info for our summer programming comes out in early spring each year.
